Abstract
The article covers a wide range of issues related with the peculiarities of formation of representations about the phenomenon of consciousness manipulation from the 16th to early 20th centuries. Attention is paid political views Machiavelli, bacon, Rousseau, Schiller, Nietzsche, and others. Specifics of the evolution of ideas about the phenomenon of consciousness manipulation.
